How I’m Saying Yes to Rest This Season — and You Can Too
As the days get shorter and the temps drop, I’ve been thinking a lot about rest. Real rest. Not “scroll on the couch while pretending to chill” rest. The intentional, nourishing kind that actually refills you.
And here’s the truth I keep coming back to:
If I want to show up fully for my goals, my community, and the things I love… I have to make space for rest.
So this season, I’m saying yes to it. Loudly. Repeatedly. Without apology. And I want to share what that actually looks like, not in a Pinterest-perfect way, but in a real-human-with-a-full-life way. And if any piece of this resonates with you, consider it your permission to say yes to rest, too.
1. I’m Choosing Slower Mornings
Normally, I’m a “wake up and get moving” kind of person. But lately? I’ve been letting myself ease into the day. A warm drink. A few deep breaths. Maybe some journaling or stretching.
Slower mornings don’t mean less productivity, they just mean I’m starting from a grounded place instead of a frantic one.
2. I’m Letting My Body Guide My Training
I love moving my body, cycling, strength training, all of it. But I’m also working on tuning into what my body needs, not just what my calendar says.
Some days that means pushing hard and feeling powerful.
Other days it means active recovery, gentle movement, or (yes) doing absolutely nothing.
Both are important. Both are valid.
3. I’m Creating Boundaries Around My Energy
Rest isn’t just physical. It’s emotional and mental, too.
This season, I’m practicing saying “no” to things that drain me and “yes” to the things that restore me, even if that means disappointing someone or stepping back when I’d normally jump in.
It’s uncomfortable… and freeing.
4. I’m Planning Time Off, Not Just Time Busy
Here’s a radical thought: rest doesn’t magically appear. You have to schedule it.
So I’ve been intentionally blocking off days (or even just a few hours) where the goal is to do less, not more. That might mean reading, cooking, napping, or doing something purely because it brings me joy.
5. I’m Letting Go of the Pressure to Be “On”
This time of year comes with a lot of expectations, social events, obligations, deadlines, year-end wrap-ups.
I’m giving myself permission to not be “switched on” every second.
I’m reminding myself: it’s okay to leave early, to recharge, to do what supports my well-being instead of what looks productive.
Saying Yes to Rest Isn’t Selfish — It’s Sustainable
The more I lean into rest, the more I realize it isn’t the opposite of ambition… it’s fuel for it.
Rest is what helps me stay creative, energized, compassionate, and connected.
Rest makes everything I care about possible.
And you deserve that same nourishment.
If your body is tired, if your mind is overwhelmed, if your spirit is craving slowness — this is your sign.
You can say yes to rest. You’re allowed.
Not just when you’ve “earned it.”
Not just when everything on the to-do list is done.
But now.
This season.
As you are.
Here’s to rest. And here’s to you.
