From Group Text to Movement—The Origin Story of Crank Queens
Crank Queens didn’t start with a strategy or a business plan. It started with a group text.
I just wanted more women to ride with. I was craving connection, camaraderie, and a crew of women who weren’t afraid to get a little dirty, try something new, and cheer each other on along the way. So I texted a few friends. Then a few more. Before I knew it, we had a crew. We started showing up—on trails, at meetups, in each other’s lives.
At first, it was casual. Just rides. But something deeper began to take root. I watched women come back week after week, not just for the exercise, but for the energy.
I saw them try features they’d always walked. I saw their confidence grow as their skills did. I watched friendships form in the forest, post-ride snacks shared in the parking lot, and the kind of unspoken understanding that only comes when you’ve pushed through fear side by side.
Crank Queens grew because the need was real. Too many women were riding alone—or not riding at all—because they didn’t have a space that felt welcoming, inclusive, or aligned with their pace. We built that space together.
Over time, what started as a group text became a full-fledged community with group rides, skills clinics, strength programs, and nutrition support—all designed specifically for women, by women. We believe in showing up as we are, embracing both challenge and celebration. We cheer for each other, wait at the top (and the bottom), and ride with more than just grit—we ride with heart.
From the very beginning, Crank Queens has been about more than just biking. It's about reminding women of what they’re capable of. It’s about building confidence on and off the trail. It’s about creating a space where women can learn, grow, fall, get back up, and keep moving forward—together.
Today, Crank Queens is a movement. It’s a community. It’s a program. We host consistent group rides, year-round coaching programs, and a growing list of events and retreats. We’re expanding our vision to include new locations and new ways to support women in midlife who want to reconnect with their strength and joy.
But at its heart, Crank Queens is still what it was in the beginning: women supporting women, one ride at a time.
